The RailRiders Journey Pack is a trunk for your junk. It will stare at you from your closet with wanderlust for an extended adventure. Unlike conventional backpacks that pack from the top down, the Journey Pack opens like a clamshell revealing clever compartments to stow all your gear. Clothes for a 3-5 day Journey, travel essentials, Toiletries, water bottle, a padded sleeve for your slightly beaten up and stickered Macbook, and anything else essential to your adventure. This clever new pack can be used as both a backpack and slingpack. All the straps can be hidden away in their own sleeves as well. the front of the pack boast molly straps, tie down straps and 3 additional clever pockets. So put your old wheeled luggage on the curb for trash pickup and strap the new Journey Pack and hit the road!
Reason For Being: The Journey Pack is designed to be the perfect travel companion. Lightweight, durable, and easy to carry, the Journey pack is designed to help make packing (and unpacking) headache free with a variety of features and a unique organizational structure.
Double Clamshell Design: Unlike most backpacks, the Journey Pack opens more like a suitcase. Zippers go around three sides of the pack, meaning you can lay it down and open it fully. Two different zipper openings allow easy categorization of your contents.
Organization: The innovative design of this pack is all about different spaces for different items. A large, zippered mesh pouch easily holds two-three days worth of clothes. Opposite that, in the same clamshell opening is space to neatly organize toiletries as well as any work papers or miscellaneous small items for your trip. The other clamshell opening contains a padded laptop pocket.
Exterior Features: A zip-open water bottle holder, three exterior pockets, and molly straps to help hold down anything else you need to carry, make this a pack complete with all the features you need to hit the road.
We used our journey pack on a recent coast to coast to coast 6 day train trip and found it to be so useful that we ordered a second one for my wife to use for her very own carryon on our next adventure trip

Perhaps the most versatile bag I have. It is well designed and works great as a pack or sling bag or suit case with plenty of useful pockets outside and places to secure packed items inside. It's easy to pack because of the way it zips open. The ONLY recommendation I would make would be to add a carry handle (like on the top of the bag) on the side of the bag opposite the side with the zip out water bottle holder. Sometimes it is more convenient to hold the bag horizontally instead of by the top when all the straps are concealed in their pockets on the back of the bag. This bag will get lots of use

The journey pack is a superb carry on. It has excellent organization. The two vertical zippers shown on the front of the pack each open to individual pockets that have a large capacity for quick to access items. A zippered compartment on the top will not hold a full airline compatible 1 quart bag but will hold glasses pens keys earphones etc. I put my 17" laptop in the main laptop compartment along with a book notebooks and other such items. The other main compartment holds a couple of days of casual clothes - and there's another zippered compartment on the very back of the bag. I have a couple of suggestions for the manufacturer - the small zippered compartment on the side should be larger (no reason not to) and there should be a mesh pocket on the other side to hold a coffee mug/water bottle. I also would make the top zippered compartment which is so handy large enough to hold a full quart sized airline bag (it's so close as it is). But overall this is the best carry-on backpack for the traveler that I can think of - extremely well organized. I was so satisfied that I also bought one as a gift for a friend.
