Are you really interested in long pants for the desert, jungle, or backcountry that are superlight, tough, and airy? With the Eco-Mesh Pants, you now have amazing temperatureregulating features. Constructed out of two-ply, 3-oz. Duralite nylon fabric, the tricked-out elements are 27-inch side zippers concealed behind vertical bands, which provide air flow to that one troubling hot spot encountered by most hikers: the crotch. Behind the tucked-away zippers are soft-mesh panels whose duty is to funnel air in and around your nether regions. With the zippers closed, the abrasion- resistant Eco-Mesh Pants resemble a traditional pair of khakis. Because the fabric is now treated with Insect Shield® technology, you have protection against mosquitoes, biting flies, and ticks. The fit is enhanced by elastic side panels at the waist, and sports two on-seam front pockets, 2 zippered back pockets. Super packable, with a 15-minute maximum drying time. Includes a new side-zippered security pocket.

Inquired about my order after purchasing and received very friendly and "family" style customer service. Just returned from a thru-hike of the Pinnell Mtn Trail in Interior Alaska. These pants were great against bugs and fluctuating weather from heat to wind to rain. Snagged the side zipper a couple times but never a problem. Very durable mesh. Deep front pockets in the front instead of the sides and zippered back pockets make these pants the only ones I'll wear hiking. Extremely comfortable.

I love these pants have for years now. I live in an area where summer means hot and humid and hiking means ticks and skeeters so long pants that can keep you cool are a must. The SPF doesn't mean much since there's little sun under the tree canopy but I loved it when they came out with the Insect Shield never have to worry about ticks again. The one problem I do have is with the zippered rear pockets. I find it difficult to get under the zipper flap and pull the zipper to open the pockets. I like the idea of a closable pocket but think this is the one place where hook-and-loop fasteners might to a better job. Because of the difficulty I rarely use the zippers. One more comment off topic wicking t-shirts with insect shield would make a wonderful addition to the line. I rarely wear button-down shirts find them annoying to put on and a pain (literally) when wearing a backpack - the chest strap tends to go right over a button and while kayaking a t-shirt stretches better when rowing than a button-down.

What a fantastic idea. As long as there's a slight breeze it's like wearing shorts yet protecting your legs from bugs and UV. The super-light material is fantastic. I love them. Definitely only for casual wear though as the legs are very baggy. Plus prepare to take them to a seamstress to shorten the legs though. I have a 32" inseam bought size large and had to have 2" taken off. Still liked them so much I bought a second pair.
